7 Unfiltered Lessons from My Last Few Years in Business

I’m more fired up than ever about helping entrepreneurs, the ones called to make a real difference in the world, step away from outdated, cookie-cutter strategies and build something real.

Something that fits.

So, on that theme, here are 7 unfiltered lessons from this past year that I think every service-based business owner should hear.

#1: You don’t need every business tool and course under the sun

Stop piling up software subscriptions and “must-have” courses that don’t align with your strengths. Focus on what actually works for you. To do that, get to know yourself at a deeper level. Human Design will help you do that.

More tools don’t equal more success. Alignment and simplicity do. Create a plan, work your plan, debrief, refine the plan, then work it again.

#2: If it feels forced, it probably is

The hustle mentality might look good on social media, but if a strategy feels draining, it’s not sustainable. Your business should energize you, not exhaust you.

#3: Knowing your unique genius will save you years of trial and error

The biggest breakthroughs come when you understand your own strengths and stop trying to be someone you’re not. This is why I preach knowing your Human Design (and then, Gene Keys). It's a game-changer to understanding your individuality.

#4: The “traditional” way to grow a business is stuck in the past

Stop pushing through strategies that don’t fit. It’s almost 2025, and you can make your own rules. Service-based businesses thrive on authenticity, not cookie-cutter formulas.

#5: Quality over quantity

It's impossible to be everything to everyone... you'll be nothing to no one!

Be crystal clear on what you offer, and for whom. Find the clients who get what you do and love working with you. That’s where the magic happens.

#6: Burnout is real, and it’s not a badge of honor

If you’re tired, take a break. The world won’t end if you step back for a bit. A rested you is far more valuable than an overwhelmed you.

#7: If it doesn't satisfy you (Generators and MGs), give you peace (Manifestors), make you feel successful (Projectors) or surprised (Reflectors), it's not for you

If you’re going to put your energy into something, make sure it’s something that feels aligned. Trying to keep up with trends and tactics that don’t fit is a surefire way to lose steam fast.
